RSG New Zealand Announces Retirement of Industry Leader Dr. John Hepburn

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Hamilton, New Zealand — RSG proudly announces the retirement of Dr. John Hepburn, a globally respected veterinarian and pioneer in livestock reproductive technologies. Marking the conclusion of an extraordinary career spanning five decades.

Dr. Hepburn will officially conclude his veterinary career at the end of May 2026. During the transition, he will continue to support RSG in an interim role as Centre Veterinarian, ensuring continuity of service and mentorship during the next phase of growth.

Dr. Hepburn’s career began in 1976 in New Zealand, where he quickly established himself as a leader in bovine embryo transfer and artificial insemination before expanding into small ruminant reproduction. Over the years, he became internationally recognized as a pioneer of laparoscopic AI in sheep and goats, performing thousands of procedures and helping elevate genetic programs across New Zealand and around the world.

His work has spanned more than 20 countries across multiple continents, contributing to advancements in cattle, sheep, and goat production systems in regions including Africa, Asia, Europe, China and the Americas. Through his technical expertise and commitment to knowledge transfer, Dr. Hepburn has played a critical role in improving livestock productivity, genetic merit, and producer livelihoods globally.

“John’s impact on the livestock industry, both in New Zealand and internationally, cannot be overstated,” said Dr. Tad Thompson, CEO of RSG. “He has not only been a world-class practitioner, but also a mentor, educator, and innovator who helped shape modern reproductive programs in multiple species. We are incredibly grateful for his leadership and bring this opportunity for us to bring RSG to New Zealand.”

As RSG continues to build on its strong foundations, including its affiliation with Trans Ova Genetics, RSG remains committed to providing NZ with a premium level of service and care.

RSG extends its sincere appreciation to Dr. Hepburn for his remarkable contributions and wishes him the very best in his retirement.
